시간이 지나면서 예전에는 능숙하게 했던 일들인데 어떻게 해야 할지 당황해할 경우가 있습니다. 모국어도 시간이 지나면 깜빡깜빡 한데, 다른 나라의 언어는 어떻겠습니까? 젊어서 매 시험마다 항상 우리의 애간장을 녹였던 ‘영어’ 직장에서 사용하지 않는다면, 대부분은 그 영어를 사용할 일이 많지 않습니다.

 

그렇지만, 해외여행을 가서는 다른 사람을 통하지 않고, 직접 주문하고 여행지를 다닐 때 가장 필요한 언어가 바로 영어가 아닐까 합니다. 물론, 영어를 쓰지 않는 나라도 많지만, 그래도 가장 강력한 언어로 급할 때 쓰는 언어이기도 합니다.

그래서 영어의 구조를 익히고, 원리를 파악하고, 그들의 문화와 현재 쓰고 있는 표현 방식을 이해한다면, 해외여행 시 내가 하고 싶은 이야기들을 잘 전하며, 소통하는데 불편했던 그 시작점을 바로 잡을 수 있으리라 생각합니다.

생각해 보면 영어공부 일주일 완성, 한 달 완성 등 수많은 수많은 낚시글이나 광고물들을 볼 수 있습니다. 세상에 공짜로 얻어지는 것은 없습니다. 내가 노력한 만큼 얻어지고 거기에서 성취감을 느끼는 것이지요. 모르는 것을 억지로 외우거나 공부할 때 시간이 지날수록 목표를 잃어버릴 때가 많습니다. 이제 다시 돌아가서 초등학교 고학년이나 중학생 정도의 문법실력으로 편안히 커뮤니케이션을 즐기실 수 있는 시간이 되시기를 소망합니다. Enjoy~~!
