Burn-Out 이 온걸까요?

다시 가고픈 코쿡섬

 

While studying English for decades without doing anything, I realize that I cannot speak English well even after studying travel English conversation for a few days before traveling abroad. When we look at figure skater Kim Yeon ah, we often think of the impressive scenes she shows or people who do their best in all areas only as they appear now.

 

영어 공부를 하다가 몇십 년을 아무것도 안 하는데, 가끔씩 해외여행에 앞서 여행용 영어 회화를 며칠 공부한다고 영어를 할 수 없음을 깨닫습니다. 우리는 피겨스케이팅 선수 김연아 씨를 바라보면 그녀가 선보이는 멋진 장면만을 떠올리거나 모든 분야에서 최선을 다하는 사람들을 현재 모습만을 떠올릴 때가 많습니다.

 

However, there are times when we cannot see the time of patience and perseverance that he or she had to give up until they reached the top. Although there are many things, I wonder if English that we are trying to learn now is not the same. Even now, the attitude of quickly acquiring it without spending time, deceived by many advertisements such as finishing English in a month or a week, has become a reality as a way of learning English.

 

그렇지만, 한 사람이 정점에 오를때까지 그가 포기해야 하고 견뎠어야 할 인내의 시간을 보지 못할 때가 있습니다. 많은 것이 있지만, 지금 우리가 배우려고 하는 영어도 마찬가지가 아닐까 합니다. 한 달 만에, 일주일 만에 영어를 끝내는 법 등 많은 광고에 속아서 지금도 빠르게, 시간을 들이지 않고 습득하려는 자세가 영어 공부법으로 자리 잡고 있는 현실입니다.

 

Nevertheless, the attitude of making efforts every day, even for just 5 minutes a day, without fail, and perseverance that we must have as the most basic mindset for the beautiful fruit that we will reap after six months or a year. When I started my blog and wrote about my mindset, and when I explained my English learning methods that I knew through writing, I felt that it was becoming an artifact of a bygone era. However, I will renew my mindset once again with the desire to tell my friends who lived in the same era.

 

 그럼에도 매일매일 하루 5분이라도, 빠지지 않고 노력하는 자세와 인내가 반년후 혹은 1년 후 수확하게 될 아름다운 열매를 위해서 가장 기본적으로 가져야 할 마음가짐이 아닌가 싶습니다. 블로그를 처음 시작하면서 마음가짐을 적었을 때, 그리고 중간중간 내가 알고 있는 영어 공부법을 글로써 풀어놓을 때, 이미 구시대 유물이 되어감을 느끼게 됩니다. 그렇지만, 동시대를 살아왔던 친구들에게 들려주고 싶은 마음으로 다시 한번 마음가짐을 새롭게 합니다.

Boarding Pass라고하면 탑승권으로 알고 있습니다. 그런데, board 혹은 boarding 하면 판, 널판지, 판때기라고 하는데, 이게 어떻게 탑승권으로 되었을까요? 예전 서양의 범선 혹은 근대의 배를 탈 때 널판지를 육지와 배 사이에 걸쳐놓고 탔던 것을 기억하실 겁니다. 맞습니다. 거기서 유래되었습니다. 이후 비행기도 타기가 높아 계단을 대거나 계단 차량을 사용하다가 오늘날엔 탑승구에 연결하여 사용하게 되었습니다. 도움이 되셨으면 좋겠습니다.
